Dear Souls - Developing Peace Within

Updated: Jan 26, 2019

Dear Souls,

We are here and ready to communicate with you all. Today we wish to talk about peace within and the struggle to find it and sustain it. You read a quote by one of our great teachers, Amma, today. She stated when you can train your mind and tame your body you will no longer be enslaved by any circumstance. We heard your question about taming and training them both. What is meant by this is a detachment to the body and mind and all sensations and prompts that cause one to go off on fear.

How many things a day call you away from the present moment? So so many things, right? With the mind it is endless and nearly this way with the body. Just think of all the words you have to describe how you feel in your body and in regard to your life. We’ve been attempting to get message to you about this over time and now you are more able to hear this, as are other dear souls.

If you are willing to begin to let us take over the body by trusting, letting go, asking and receiving it is an excellent first step. Same with the mind. The key here is to recognize where your focus is and then relinquish your thoughts and responses…this is what we mean by letting us take over and guide you.

Start with the noticing, as many times as you can in a given day, when the mind is being called away and when the body is attempting to get your attention. Then notice the power the thoughts and sensations have over you. It will be different. Maybe hunger is a more powerful triggers for you than being tired; maybe anger and blame are a more powerful trigger than sadness. You’ll have to determine these for yourself. Just start with this, the noticing…by being willing to explore this dynamic instead of giving into it or resisting it. Use your breathe to be still with it, even if it is just for a moment before you react, you’ve done something different.

Next allow yourself to move into the sensation or distraction. These actions require a pause. A moment when you notice and another before you react. See if you can use that moment to explore if indeed the sensation or the distraction is necessary. Evaluate this…is what it appears to be? Is hunger truly hunger in this moment…could it be thirst, fear, boredom? Is anger and the desire to blame really what’s going on…could it be loneliness, a desire for connection or understanding? Hmmmm, worth contemplation, right? When you take this time to pause, you have an opportunity to connect within, to call on your soul for the truth of the matter.

Obtaining and training yourself in these ways you are tapping into the peace within. By connecting to the peace within you are overcoming the distractions and reactive responses to thoughts and body sensations. Raising your awareness up a notch or two by practicing present moment consciousness with a good dose of loving kindness.

We are giving you a few simple steps to train yourself. Start with noticing, and then be willing to add in a pause. Next move into evaluating the truth of the distracting moment. Lastly connecting with the peace within through loving kindness and knowing you are seeking peace of mind and ease within the body. There is nothing but beauty in this. With this practice you will be release from some of the enslavement you find yourself in way too often.

“When you can train your mind and tame your body you will no longer be enslaved by any circumstance.” ~ Amma
